Scotland’s first cryptocurrency has achieved carbon neutral status, by offsetting 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent through investment in a project reducing the emissions of harmful greenhouse gases from a chemicals plant in Gujarat, India.
The project, delivered through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Adaptation Fund, uses a thermal oxidation system to convert emissions of fluoroform into harmless salts and water vapour.
The Scotcoin Project Community Interest Company (CIC) aims to use digital currency to support a range of charitable and environmental projects.
