Scotland won 2-1 against the Republic of Ireland in their final home UEFA Nations League B Group 1 section
The nation was in a buoyant mood as it came into the game knowing two draws would seal promotion to League A and boost their Euro 2024 hopes following a 3-0 midweek win against Ukraine. But as Tartan Army hero John McGinn made his 50th appearance in navy blue, Stephen Kenny's side struck a major blow when John Egan headed home from a corner.
They had already had the ball in the net via Troy Parrott but it was ruled offside, as Steve Clarke's men were very quickly brought back to earth and told they were in a game. Jack Hendry levelled things up and Ryan Christie from the penalty spot to make sure Scotland sit on 12 points and in first place ahead of the final group encounter with Ukraine. Here is how we rated the players from Scotland's latest encounter at Hampden.

Craig Gordon - 7
Made a couple of decent saves to deny Parrott and then a huge one in the second. Considering circumstances of him awaiting news on the birth of his second son, a professional, solid display. Helpless at goal.
Aaron Hickey - 7
Couple of dangerous crosses into the box and defended like an experienced pro in an unnatural right-back slot. Subbed with a fitness concern after 60 minutes. An impressive talent.
Scott McTominay - 7
McTominay helped dictate play and anchor the defence. He was composed in midfield and got forward when needed, helping win the penalty.
Kieran Tierney - 5
The luckless Celtic hero and Arsenal star can't seem to catch a break. He's got back fit once more but was forced off with a nasty head injury. Walked off so hopefully nothing serious.
John McGinn - 7
A memorable night as captained the team and won cap 50. Put himself about as is the norm.
Callum McGregor - 6
Lost Egan for the goal but responded well in battling in midfield during what was a dogged affair at times against a team who didn't stop running.
Lyndon Dykes - 6
In for Che Adams after his double versus Ukraine. An industrious effort but not the same impact as his brace.
Ryan Christie - 8
Was threaded in behind a few times but end product was lacking, literally falling over his feet once. Then he popped up with a fine cross for Hendry and forgiveness was granted by sparking Hampden scenes.
Jack Hendry - 8
Looked comfortable and assured alongside McKenna in defence and popped up at the other end to make a big contribution. Growing in stature.
Scott McKenna - 7
Looks to be really developing at Premier League level with Nottingham Forest. Dealt with the Irish frontline well and showed composure on the ball.
Stuart Armstrong - 6
Missed chances were the story of his otherwise good display against Ukraine but with fewer in supply, he hadn't added a clinical touch.
Greg Taylor - 6
Came on for close mate Tierney and showed glimpses of his form at Celtic. Up and down the left for the hour he was on.
Anthony Ralston - 5
Replaced the injured Hickey. Limited minutes at Celtic so far this season so this will be of benefit.
Ryan Fraser - 5
Made the difference against Ukraine and came on here at minute 60 with a few late runs.
Kenny McLean - 3
A late cameo again.
Che Adams - 3
Came on with McLean to provide fresh legs.
