Scotland player ratings as Spain defeat delays Euro 2024 qualification

Angus Gunn 6

It was a quiet night overall for the goalkeeper who did not have much to do except pick the ball out of the net twice. His distribution was solid.

Ryan Porteous 7

He was an absolute rock at the back throughout the fixture. On several occasions the Watford centre-back made crucial interceptions to halt opportunities for Spain. His passing was also calm under pressure. He was unlucky to score an own goal which sealed the win for the hosts.

Jack Hendry 6

A mixed night for the defender as he was strong in the tackle at times but was ruled by the officials as interfering with play from an offside position for Scott McTominay's disallowed goal.

Scott McKenna 6

The 26-year-old was solid at the back for the most part but was caught out of position a few times.

Aaron Hickey 6

It was an up-and-down evening for the full-back. He defended well for the majority of the game and offered a real outlet going forward. However, a lapse in concentration caused him to make a mistake near the end which led to the second goal.

Callum McGregor 7

He kept the ball well at times and was calm under pressure from the Spanish midfield.

Scott McTominay 7

Almost thought he had scored his seventh goal of the qualification campaign after netting from a free kick. However, it was ruled out. In terms of his overall performance, he put in the hard years chasing the ball and kept it well when he had it.

Andy Robertson 6

The captain was very effective during his time on the pitch, both defensively and going forward. He linked up very well with Christie in the first half. Unfortunately, he went off injured just before half time after landing awkwardly on his shoulder.

John McGinn 6

It was a game in which he broke up play well in the first half but dipped as the match went on.

Ryan Christie 6

He stretched the game well but lacked quality in the final third at times.

Lyndon Dykes 6

A match in which he worked hard but had little service.

Substitutes

Nathan Patterson (for Roberston, 43) 5

The Everton defender replaced Robertson just before the break. He picked up a booking early in the second half which led to him dipping out of the match.

Che Adams (for Dykes, 77) 3

Outside of a late chance which he did not make proper contact with, the Southampton forward was not involved much.

Stuart Armstrong (for Christie, 77) 3

He was not able to influence the game.

Kenny McLean (for McGregor, 88) 2

There was little time for him to make an impact.

Billy Gilmour (for Porteous, 88) 2

He did not have an opportunity to contribute.
