Scotland hit with Met Office yellow weather warning as heavy rain to cause disruption

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued to parts of Scotland for Monday November 7.

The Met Office has put the alert in place from 3pm this afternoon until 11.59pm tonight, with parts of East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire set to be affected.

Parts of Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders have also been issued with the warning, and the rainy conditions are likely to cause "some disruption".

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: "Heavy rain through this afternoon and evening, falling on to already saturated ground, is expected to cause some localised flooding.

"Accumulations widely 15-25mm expected across the warning area with 50mm possible for a few sites over higher ground."

What to expect

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely

If you plan on driving during these conditions, the Met Office warns that you should take extra care to avoid accidents. Roads will be much more slippery than normal, and the spray from other vehicles could suddenly reduce your visibility, so it's best to take it slow and avoid flooded roads if you can.

Affected areas

SW Scotland, Lothian Borders

  • Dumfries and Galloway
  • Scottish Borders

Strathclyde

  • East Ayrshire
  • South Ayrshire
  • South Lanarkshire
