Spanish FA chiefs have revealed they chose Seville to host Scotland in their Euro 2024 rematch because they are desperate for 'revenge' on Spain's National Day. holiday.
Scotland have more points in Group A than the rest of the other countries in the section combined after a sensational start to their European Championship campaign following four wins out of four. The Spanish FA have now confirmed they will take Scotland to Seville for the rematch on October 12 at the Estadio La Cartuja, where Celtic played against Porto in the UEFA Cup Final 20 years ago. And with the game taking place on the National Day of Spain festival and holiday, Spain are determined to turn the occasion into a party for their home fans after insisting they want payback on the Scots.
The Spanish FA stated: "We have approved that Seville will host the match against Scotland at the Estadio La Cartuja, This match will be an opportunity for revenge for the national team after the 2-0 loss in Glasgow in the first round of fixtures in the group. This will be an exciting match which takes place on Hispanic Day - the national day of Spain.
"The Estadio de La Cartuja is already well known by the national team, They won 6-0 against Croatia in the Nations League, which was won last week and also qualified for the World Cp there with a 1-0 win over Sweden. Additionally, we played three Euro 2020 matches there and qualified for the round of 16 with a 5-0 win against Slovakia."
The Spanish FA also announced that Scotland Under 21s will kick off their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign on September 12 in Jaen in Andalusia.
