Temperatures are set to skyrocket in Scotland today in what will be the warmest day of 2023 so far, the Met Office has said.
On Tuesday, May 30, parts of the country will experience sweltering 25C heat, beating out any other part of the UK after Plymouth broke the record over the weekend with temperatures of 24.4C.
People in the west of Scotland are the most likely to see the temperature climbing this high, following several days of fine weather thanks to an area of high pressure being anchored over the country.
Experts have also said that the high temperatures are set to continue as we go further into the week - ideal for anyone wanting to get out and make the most of the summer weather.
Met Office forecaster Dan Stroud told the Daily Record: "We're expecting the continuation of fine, dry and settled weather over the next few days. Cloudier across the east of Scotland, but we are expecting temperatures to climb steadily as we move through the next couple of days."
Dan also described how those in the west of Scotland would likely see highs of 25 degrees today, "which would make it the warmest day of the year so far, not only for Scotland but for the rest of the country as well."
Despite these higher than average temperatures, this spell of good weather doesn't quite meet the Met Office's heatwave criteria - but is still good news for Scots desperate for a bit of sun.
And it looks set to carry on even as we move into next week, as Dan told PA: "We’ve got high pressure sending across at the moment, which is bringing dry and settled weather and some late spring, early summer sunshine.
"We’re expecting similar conditions for the rest of the week and into next weekend and probably beyond. So an extended spell of dry and settled weather."
Dan said that the month of May has been very dry and with "just slightly more than half the normal amount of rainfall we would actually expect".
While the scorching weather is good news for many people, fire crews have warned the public to take extra care - particularly when it comes to leaving certain items in your car.
It comes after a pair of sunglasses left on a car dashboard over the weekend caused the vehicle to burst into flames, causing huge damage to the steering wheel and windscreen.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue shared the harrowing image of the damage online, warning people to never leave anything with a reflective surface in your car on hot days as it could result in a blaze.
