Thousands of homes across Scotland have been left without power as temperatures dropped to as low as -17.3°C.
The sub-zero conditions were recorded at Braemar in Aberdeenshire this morning - making it the coldest place in the UK for the second day in a row. A yellow weather warning of snow and ice for Northern Scotland has now been extended by the Met Office from midday on Thursday until midday on Friday.
Amid the icy spells, thousands of homes in Shetland were left without power on Monday night following significant snowfall. As of 11am today, power had been restored power to more than 2,500 properties, with 3,800 homes still off supply in Voe, Whalsay, Brae, Tumblin, Yell and Unst, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said.
