The last bank holiday of the month is set to be a warm one as Scots can look forward to clear and sunny skies.
Forecasters predict "fine and dry" conditions this weekend with the weather set to heat up next week. While the forecast doesn't meet the heatwave criteria, June's starting temperatures are to remain in the toasty 20s across Scotland and the UK.
Thanks to a bout of high pressure that's set to dominate, parts of the country could bake in 21C next Tuesday and Thursday (May 30 and June 1) in Scotland's hottest days of the year so far.
Speaking on the Tuesday forecast, Met Office spokesman Oli Cayden told the Daily Record: "A fine day, lots of sunshine around cloud incursions of the far east, possibly reaching 21C and central and western parts of Scotland."
Friday's forecast remains predominantly clear, but see some drizzle and light rain, particularly in the far north and the high pressure is set to stick around.
More sunny weather will kick in moving in to next week, with highs of 20C predicted for central and southern Scotland. May 30 and June are the days Scots will see things really hit up as the mercury is set to hit 21C.
"The jet stream sitting to the north of the UK is holding unsettled weather systems at bay and allowing high pressure to dominate bringing fine weather to the vast majority of the UK," said Met Office Chief Forecaster, Paul Gundersen.
"The current position of the high-pressure means we will see a westerly air flow over the UK, a cooler direction than if air was being brought up from the south, and areas such as Spain or Africa. Therefore, we are not likely to reach heatwave conditions, but temperatures will still be warm reaching the low 20’s for many."
Saturday will see a weak front moving to the northwest resulting in a cloudy morning, but this will brighten up quickly with increased sunshine in the afternoon and evening. Things will cool slightly across the country on Sunday but remain clear overall.
Last month Britain's warmest day of the year so far was marked in the Highlands at 20C.
The Met Office's five day forecast
Today
Variable cloud through today with some lengthy sunny spells especially across parts of southern England. Cloudier across Scotland with some patchy drizzle. Fresh winds along northern and southern coasts.
Tonight
Across the far northwest it will remain cloudy tonight with light rain or drizzle. Elsewhere there will be plenty of long clear spells so turning chilly with isolated fog patches.
Saturday
Cloud and some outbreaks of rain will sink southeastwards across Scotland and into Northern Ireland later. A fine day elsewhere and feeling warm in the sunshine.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday
High pressure keeps it dry to end the bank holiday weekend with scattered cloud. More sunshine on Tuesday.
Feeling warm by day but cool under any clearer skies at night.
