IT WAS hot work for Scots racing drivers Paul Di Resta and Ryan Dalziel at Sebring in the US – but this didn’t stop both drivers from scoring impressive podium finishes.
Despite his car’s air conditioning not working, Dalziel lived up to his “Razzle Dazzle” nickname to take third in the LMP2 class in the 12 Hours of Sebring in his Era Motorsport Oreca car in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Cooler evening weather gave the Scot a boost and he grabbed third place in the closing minutes. He said: “This was physically one of the toughest races I’ve done.
“Thankfully, once the humidity dropped, it got better as the race went on and it was a flawless job from everyone on the team.”
Di Resta took first place in the LMP2 category for the FIA World Endurance Championship 1000 Mile race at Sebring in his Oreca. He said: “What a way to start the year.
"It was tricky and we had to work hard. It gets the motivation going and I’ll be back in the WEC with Peugeot later in the year.”
Closer to home, Scottish drivers performed well in the British Drift Championship at Teesside. Chrissy Nailen won the Pro2 event and Robbie Burgoyne came second in the Pro event.
Forfar-born Sandy Mitchell has confirmed he will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe in his Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3. He will also race in the British GT Championship in a bid to win the title for a second time.
Neil MacLennan, from Inverness, is set to contest the GT Cup Championship in a Porsche Cayman GT4 Cup. The 23-year-old is being coached by Scots racing driver Ross Wylie with the ambition of competing at the Le Mans 24 Hour race in the future.
