Drop-ball confusion
Weston McKennie levelled Tyrell Malacia with one of the early flashpoints in the match. The defender intimated his head had taken a blow and so Paul Tierney blew up.
The next passage of play was supposed to start with a Leeds United drop ball. Luke Ayling was given the honours by the referee and he played it delicately down the flank towards Crysencio Summerville.
Rather than pick up the possession they were supposed to have, the winger thought Ayling was returning the ball to the visitors and let it run out of play. The right-back was astonished and they had a few words.

Ayling surveillance
In the 27th minute, Jadon Sancho was pulled across to the touchline by Erik ten Hag for some instructions. What he didn’t bargain on was United’s captain being stood within two yards, stretching as he was clearly listening in to what was being said.
Ayling frustrated for Bamford
In the 58th minute, when Patrick Bamford’s number was lit up on the fourth official’s board, while Leeds were preparing for a corner, there was visible frustration on the field. Ayling saw it before Bamford and threw his head back, arms in the air, upset the striker was coming off.
Bamford was less animated, but clearly keen to stay on. Ayling tried calling to Bamford as he walked off, but couldn’t get his attention through the weight of noise from the stands.
Skubala takes it in with his family
Around an hour after full-time, caretaker boss Michael Skubala was seen with his family on the pitch at Elland Road. There was a decent congregation gathered with the under-21s boss who, it seems, may have taken charge of his last senior game in this series.
It has been a generally productive week for the former futsal supremo, with two performances which delivered far more than anyone had anticipated when Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday. This was a time to try and soak it all up with his loved ones.
Schreuder spotted
You will have read about his appearance by now, but there was a half-hearted attempt from Alfred Schreuder to hide himself on Sunday afternoon. At the same time Skubala was on the pitch with his family, Gaby Ruiz, the club's head of European recruitment, was seen leading the Dutchman along the John Charles Stand and into the directors’ box.
It was all far too late because they had already been clocked by the remaining media in the stand, but Ruiz had warned Schreuder to put his hood up as he came past. A good try, but hardly in hiding as he walked through an open stand.
