Schoolgirl, 6, jumps up and down after getting letter from King Charles

A schoolgirl was "made up" after she received a thank you letter from King Charles.

Olivia Hodge, six, from Speke, wrote a letter to King Charles in September 2022 after Buckingham Palace confirmed Queen Elizabeth II had died at Balmoral. At the time of her death Olivia, then five, asked her mum, Christine Garbe, 47, if she could write a letter to say how sorry she was.

Her mum said the letter was "all her own words and she wrote it herself" before a return address was added and it was sent to the palace.

The letter read: "Dear King Charles. I am sorry the Queen has died, but we are happy that you are the King. We will miss the Queen so much but she is now in the stars with my nannys. Lots of love. Olivia Hodge - age five from Liverpool xxxxx"

Christine told The ECHO: "When the Queen passed away we were watching it on the TV and the news and she said it was very sad. She asked me and her dad if she could write a letter to the King.

"We didn't give her any help or help her write anything. It was all her own words and she wrote it herself. I had to Google where to send it."

But when Olivia came home from school on Monday, March 20, her mum presented her with a sealed envelope with the King Charles' royal cypher stamped at the top. Once Olivia opened the envelope and saw it was a card from King Charles she "jumped up and down on the sofa".

The card sent by The King said: "It was so very kind of you to send me such a wonderfully generous message following the death of my beloved mother. Your most thoughtful words are enormously comforting, and I cannot tell you how deeply they are appreciated at this time of immense sorrow."

Christine said: "She was made up and was jumping up and down on the couch after opening it. I've told her she can take it in tomorrow to show all her friends at school.

"We completely forgot about it and we didn't expect anything back as we imagined there would be thousands of them. I think it was really lovely for him to send this to her."

Olivia told The ECHO: "I think it was really good of him to do that because I really love the Queen and King and I sent them a letter and they sent one back. She's in the stars with my nannys looking over us all."
