Pupils were shot at by 'laughing' thugs as they drove past in a terrifying incident near a secondary school.
Students from Bishop Walsh School in Sutton Coldfield were making their way home last Thursday (June 9) when a man shot a BB gun loaded with metal pellets at two schoolboys from a silver car, believed to be a Toyota Yaris.
One 14-year-old was struck in the chest ‘a number of times’ in Crawford Road in Walmley at roughly 3.45pm, with another young victim also hit.
Police are currently hunting for the men responsible, said to be in their 20s, who were heard ‘laughing’ as they carried out the sick attack, according to the dad of one of the victims.
The parent, who asked not to be named, described the shooters as ‘pathetic’.
Speaking to BirminghamLive, he said: “My son was walking home from school last Thursday when he and another boy were shot at, at around 3.45pm in Crawford Road.
“They were in a silver Toyota Yaris and it seems they were driving around shooting at kids. My son who is 14 was hit a number of times in the chest by the pellets and another boy was also hit.
“Luckily there were no injuries and he was fine but if he had been hit in the face or in his eye, it could have been a different story. There are a lot of elderly people who live around there who would probably have been very shocked if they saw it.
“It’s pretty awful really. They probably haven't thought through the consequences of what they are doing and it could have been quite serious if it had hit his eye.
The 51-year-old from Walmley, added: “Those that did it are a bit pathetic. Men in their 20s are going around shooting BB guns at schoolkids. One had ginger hair.
“They were laughing and it appears they were targeting any schoolkids. It seems as if they just had a new toy and wanted to try it out.”
West Midlands Police has confirmed it is investigating the incident. A spokeswoman for the force said: “We're investigating after a suspected BB gun was fired at a 14-year-old boy on Crawford Road, Sutton Coldfield, at about 3.45pm on Thursday (June 9).
“We understand it was fired by a passenger in a silver-coloured car and we are working to identify and trace the owner of the vehicle as our enquiries continue. The youngster suffered some bruising but did not need hospital treatment.
