Schoolboy sent home from school over 'Ronaldo World Cup' haircut

A teenager was sent home from school after sporting a Ronaldo-style World Cup haircut. The teen's mum, Emma Shaw, claims she has been told her son won't be able to attend any classes until he shaves off the iconic trim.

The 12-year-old is an avid football fan and in the spirit of the 2022 World Cup had asked his mum if he could get a haircut based on his favourite player. Alfie Ransom is a huge lover of legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo Nazário.

The forward won the 2002 World Cup with his nation supporting the bizarre trim and it has since gone down in history. After England won their first game of the tournament, the schoolboy asked his mother to give him the chop, reports Hull Live.

However, the fresh trim did not impress everyone, with Alfie's secondary school far not pleased. The 32-year-old mum found this out earlier this week when the school rang her up to say her son was being sent home.

She quizzed why and alleges she was told that the haircut was against Sirius West Academy's dress code. The mother asked how the haircut would affect her son's learning.

In response, she claims the school told her that Alfie would not be welcome back in lessons until after the iconic look was fully shaved off. Emma said: "Nowadays, schools are all about accepting people for who they are and encouraging people to be unique and themselves.

"How is this any different? Ronaldo is one of my son's favourite players and it's the World Cup.

"Even since I was a kid, there were always trends according to what pop stars and celebrities were doing- we would go crazy for the stars. Alfie's friends loved the haircut and it made Alfie really happy and confident.

"He likes school and wanted to go as normal but he won't be allowed to go back until he's shaved it all off, which is ridiculous because it won't affect his learning one bit."

The mum is in two minds about what her next move should be as she understands the dress code policy but doesn't want to upset her son by shaving off the trim. She continued: "I just know that shaving his head will make him feel sad.

"He's confident with how he looks now and I don't want to force him to have his head shaved. However, it is important for him to be in school and if they won't let him back until it's shaved, I don't know what to do."

Sirius West Academy's uniform policy states: "Hairstyles must be appropriate for Academy life. There should be no extreme hairstyles such as a Mohican, shaved ‘tram’ lines or unnatural hair colour."

Hull Live has contacted Sirius West Academy for comment.
