A child is fighting for his life after being hit by a car outside a Morrisons supermarket in Sunderland.
At 6.50pm on Tuesday 11 August, Northumbria police received a report of a crash on Doxford Park Way.
It was reported that a 12-year-old boy was crossing the road outside Morrisons supermarket and, while on the westbound carriageway, he was struck by a white Vauxhall Mokka car.
Emergency services attended the scene and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the Vauxhall – a woman in her 40s – remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries following the incident, the force said.
Officers are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the boy being struck by the vehicle.
