Schoolboy author aims to break Guinness world record

Liverpool schoolboy Caleb Likambi is aiming to break a world record by publishing five books in one year.

Caleb debuted as an author aged 12 with his first book, Tammy and the Shipwreck, early in 2022 and went on to publish five books. His goal is to create diversity in children’s literature and make his books available to young people to inspire as many children as possible to unlock their creative genius and full potential.

Caleb hopes for official recognition as his parents seek clarification of his achievement. He comes from a talented family, as sisters Latoya, 16, and Destiny, 7, published their first books aged 10 and five.

Caleb told the ECHO: "I would say to a young person wanting to write their own book, when you have a vision chase it and go after it. This is one of the morals of my book, The Dreamer, when you have a calling or a will to do something you have to go after it and believe in yourself.

"In writing, think of what your book is going to be about and get a piece of paper or a notebook and write down your ideas. Perfect it and add other parts you might have thought of until it is the way you would like it.

"At this stage, start imagining pictures or images of what will happen. Once you have thought of an image, get it drawn because you may forget the image".

There’s no record of any child aged 12 who published five books in one year.

The youngest in the Guinness Book of Records to publish a series of books is 12 years and 295 day old girl Ritaj Hussain Alhazmi from Saudi Arabia who published two books at the time of her record being verified.

Caleb said: "I think of a moral and then think of a story to show or express that moral lesson. That's why I released the series “Life Lessons”, my very own set of books that all have their own morals embedded in them.

"My favourite author would be David Walliams because the first book I ever read was Grandpa's Great Escape. This book really intrigued me and pushed me on to read more of his books. Once I read all of his books I started reading different books, which led to me reading over 650.

"I like David Walliams because of the adventures they take me to. They have great story lines and sometimes moments I can relate too. After I finished my first I went out searching for more. That’s how my love for reading grew".

Caleb added: "Always surround yourself with people who inspire you to be great, but most importantly, be that person who inspires others to be great."

Caleb's five books are Tammy and the Shipwreck, The Stepbrother, Wartime, Life Lessons: Rags to Riches and Life Lessons: The Dreamer.
