A high school has managed to receive a 'good' Ofsted rating three years after a damning report by the inspectorial watchdog.
Range High school on Stapleton Road in Formby was previously one of only several schools in the country to receive five consecutive 'outstanding' reports. This changed in December 2018 when the school was given a 'requires improvement' rating by the school watchdog with the report mentioning the bad behavior of one particular group of boys.
In the most recent Ofsted report inspectors said pupils are "proud" of their school and they feel "safe". Students were said to be learning more than they did in the past because "leaders have raised their expectations of pupils’ behaviour and their achievement".

The report read: "Leaders have introduced a new behaviour policy that is understood by pupils and followed closely by teachers. Pupils reported that lessons are rarely disrupted."
"Students in the sixth form demonstrate exemplary behaviour. They are credible role models for the younger pupils in the school."
Inspectors also reported: "They said that there is always an adult they can talk to if they are worried about anything. Pupils reported that, if bullying occurs, staff deal with it quickly."
The report also mentioned that some pupil's reading is not up to standard it said: "Some pupils struggle to read with fluency and accuracy. Staff are not suitably equipped to support pupils who find reading difficult.
"As a result, pupils are notable to access the curriculum as well as they should. Leaders should ensure that staff have the skills and knowledge to ensure that pupils quickly catch up and become fluent and confident readers."
Headteacher of Range High school Mike McGarry said: "This Ofsted report and its findings are testament to the hard work of everyone in the school community in the difficult and challenging years through the pandemic. They show a huge improvement since Ofsted’s last visit in November 2018.
“As can be read in the report, the team were extremely thorough in the two days they spent with us and left no stone unturned when conducting their work. We are all very proud of this key moment in the school’s history.
"We still have much to do as we strive once again to be an ‘outstanding’ school but to achieve this accolade under a new, much more demanding Ofsted framework is a huge success in its own right."
