School gym transformed into house with 'basketball court kitchen' on sale for £250,000

A converted school gym with "basketball court kitchen" has gone on sale for £250,000.

The former gymnasium has four huge bedrooms and three bathrooms and rows of spectator seats are still in place for sports fans.

Located in Wilkinson County, Indiana, US, the 5,984 sq ft building was built in 1950 after a fundraising campaign by the local PTA of Wilkinson High School to build a larger gym for students.

Ripped straight out of a US coming of age movie, all that is missing is a few US college-style jackets, some cheerleaders and an underdog basketball team who make it to the finals.

The former school buildings which were first built in the 1920s are no longer standing.

But the unusual property has been balanced to become a self-contained home, perfect for any basketball fan. but with much nicer facilities than your standard high school gym.

The unusual property's kitchen and living space is on a disused part of what was the full court.

And you can't fault sellers for trying to make the most of the hardwood flooring min the gym.

The bedrooms have been carpeted, but living spaces are, sellers say, ideal for sliding around in your socks, if you feel inclined.

As well as the court itself the original rows of spectator seats have been left intact, should you want an audience for your basketball game.

Pictures of the quirky home were shared on Facebook, where the post racked up more than 5,600 likes.

One viewer commented: “Perfect for simultaneously baking a quiche and practicing your free throws.”

“I work in a high school. I'm pretty sure that smell is never gonna leave. Aaaaaahhh, the fresh scent of arms and a**es,” another user joked. [sic]

Someone else said: “Well, I guess telling the kids no playing ball in the house is out.”

“I would roller skate from one end to the other. Total dream house,” said another fan.

But for some users the renovation still couldn’t disguise their feelings of teenage insecurity.

“I can smell the teen angst and awkwardness just looking at this,” said one user.

“Gonna buy it and re-create the scenes from Teen Wolf on the basketball court!” added another user.

“I’d buy this if I could recreate every basketball scene from every High School Musical movie,” commented one user.

Another person said: “Literally all I can hear is the screeching of sneakers over the floor.”

“Kids I told you get out of the kitchen and behind the 3 point line!” someone else commented.

Estate agent Roy Wilson has a personal connection to the property and can fondly remember his school days there.

He told NeedToKnow.online: "I have lots of memories, as we all do of our school day experiences – unfortunately, most had little to do with academics.

“The biology class was above the shop class. After dissecting various frogs and worms, students would shove left-over dissection parts down holes in the floor to the shop room, where the shop kids would have further plans for the parts.

“At that time, students would sneak into the boiler room to smoke—it was a delicate task as teachers would too.

“I remember exactly where I sat during graduation in 1969, when soon to be governor Otis Bowen gave our commencement address.

“A former teacher recently told me about another teacher caught three boys walking on the gym floor with their street shoes – they were paddled because it was against the rules!”

The property is on sale with Roy Wilson of F.C. Tucker Company for £250,000 ($299,000).
