Newcastle United got their Premier League campaign off to a flyer with a comfortable 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies were in control from start to finish as they made the newly-promoted side look like they were still a Championship outfit.
Fabian Schar scored a rocket to finally open the deadlock in the 58th minute, before Callum Wilson doubled the advantage with a well-taken flick 20 minutes later. Newcastle saw the game out well, with Eddie Howe praising his side's commitment at full-time.
Here are moments you may have missed from the St. James' Park clash.
Forest's crazy corner
Nottingham Forest struggled to break United down throughout and only had a few chances to expose the Howe's defence from set pieces. So, midway through the second-half, Steve Cooper's side tried something rather unconventional.
As a Forest player stepped up to take a corner in front of the Gallowgate End, not a single red shirt was in the penalty area. By the time to ball reached the penalty area, five players had made their way from the edge of the box into the danger zone to try and attack it.
However, it was an easy take for Nick Pope and it all felt a bit silly afterwards. I wonder how many times Forest will try the weird routine this season?
Schar's carbon copy
Fabian Schar's screamer in the second-half finally broke the deadlock and got bums off seats at St. James' Park - and the goal certainly looked really familiar?
That's because at the Leazes End in February 2019, the Swiss defender scored literally a carbon copy of his Nottingham Forest strike. Playing against Burnley, with Newcastle trying to break the deadlock, Schar picked up the ball after an opposition clearance, settled himself, took a touch forward and rifled one in at the near post.
Three years on, the same thing happened as the Magpies got their campaign off to a flyer this Saturday.
Wright farewell
If you were on the concourse at half-time, enjoying a mid-match pie and pint, you may have missed Derek Wright's farewell during the interval.
The Toon legend, who was the club's physio for 38 years, was given was a proper goodbye in front of fellow supporters after his recent retirement. A few substitutes were on hand to stop their warm up and offer their appreciation as Wright said goodbye.
Lingard reaction
Jesse Lingard was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle earlier this summer. However, his wage demands were too high for the north east outfit. As such, he opted for a surprise move to Forest and joined their big recruitment drive this summer.
Newcastle fans certainly haven't forgotten and Lingard was welcomed to St. James' Park with some boos as he first touched the ball early in the game. Those jeers subsided later in the match as the former Manchester United man struggled to impress.
Maybe Newcastle have dodged a bullet...
The photo returns!
We weren't sure if it would be back or not... but the post-match, celebratory, dressing room snap is back.
Howe, his players and his staff all crammed into the home changing area and posed once again as they celebrated another win before posting the image on Twitter. The Newcastle boss admitted last season he wasn't sure if the tradition would continue but it looks like it may be here to stay.
Let's hope we see it a lot in the coming weeks as the wins keep on coming.
