The Scarlets have strengthened their pack with the signing of Scotland international lock Alex Craig from Gloucester.
Craig won two caps for Scotland against Italy and France, respectively, back in 2021, and has played 49 times for Gloucester since signing from Hartpury RFC in 2019. The 26-year-old would have likely made far more appearances for the Cherry and Whites if he hadn't picked up a series of injuries over the past two seasons.
At six foot six inches tall and weighing 112kg, the Scarlets will hope Craig can add some much-needed grunt to their front five. Craig is the fifth signing the Scarlets have made this summer with talented utility back Ioan Lloyd joining from Bristol Bears, while Wales Sevens star Tomi Lewis has returned to the club from Jersey Reds. Outside-half Charlie Titcombe and openside flanker Teddy Leatherbarrow have also signed from Loughborough University after impressive seasons in the BUCS Super League.

“This is a fresh start playing in an exciting competition that is the URC," said Craig. "Scarlets are a big club with a proud fan base and play a real exciting brand of rugby. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
With Sione Kalamafoni, Blade Thomson, Tomas Lezana, and Aaron Shingler having left the club, the Scarlets pack is in desperate need of strengthening with the signing of Craig a step in the right direction.
As WalesOnline exclusively revealed last week the Scarlets are also chasing the signature of former Junior All Blacks star Taine Plumtree who can play second-row, blindside and No 8, but there are also other clubs interested in acquiring the services of the Swansea-born man.
“Alex is a young, athletic lock, who will add international quality to our pack of forwards," said Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel. "I’m looking forward to seeing him play and and it's been great to welcome him to Parc y Scarlets for our first day back."
