Greater Manchester's mental health trust has been served with warning notices to improve after inspectors found the service to be unsafe.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carried out inspections at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, some prompted by whistleblowers raising serious concerns about quality of care. The inspection follows undercover footage broadcasted earlier this year on the BBC Panorama programme, appearing to show staff bullying, humiliating and mocking patients at the mental health unit, the Edenfield Centre.
Since the episode aired, multiple investigations have been launched, NHS England has placed the trust 'in the equivalent of special measures', 30 staff are facing disciplinary action and a dozen have already been sacked. The trust's chair also announced his upcoming resignation, the Manchester Evening News previously revealed.
