CHANDIGARH: “I saw everything,” said Sukhwinder Singh, the lone blind man contesting assembly elections in Punjab and whose last visual memory is of 30-35 extremists lynching his “taaya” Teja Singh, for voting for the Congress in the 1992 assembly elections in Punjab.
Soon after the incident, Sukhwinder, then 6, started losing eyesight. Now aged 36, the Ramdasiya Sikh is contesting from Baranala constituency for the February 20 polls. The 1992 elections, held in February too, were the first polls in the state after President’s Rule was imposed in 1987.
