Saw 10 will be released in cinemas in October 2023 with Saw VI director returning

The release date for the highly-anticipated Saw 10 has been announced.

The next instalment of the billion dollar horror franchise will premiere on October 27, 2023, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures announced on Monday.

The 10th film will be directed by Kevin Greutert, who worked previously on Saw VI (2009) and Saw: The Final Chapter (2010).

While details about the plot are being kept strictly under wraps, producers have promised to capture fans' "hearts — and other body parts — with all-new twisted, ingenious traps and a new mystery to solve."

"We have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans alike will love," producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules told Variety.

"And part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still one of the fans’ favourites in the entire series. More details will be revealed soon."

Horror franchise Saw was created by Australian film makers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, consisting of nine feature films and additional media.

The first eight films revolve around the fictional serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer, while the ninth movie follows a copycat killer while still keeping continuity with the previous films.

Saw has grossed more than $1 billion from box office and retail sales.

The script for the 10th film was finished last December, after it was announced in April a new movie was set to be filmed.

Fans took to Twitter following the announcement, sharing their excitement.

One wrote: "SAW 10???? IM READY", while another added: "Bring Brenda back for Saw 10".

A third fan chimed: "SAW 10 BABY!".
