The Savannah Bananas, known for their unique and entertaining brand of baseball called Banana Ball, are set to bring their antics to the football field in 2025. Team owner Jesse Cole announced that the team will play at Clemson's Memorial Stadium on April 26, followed by games at NFL venues Nissan Stadium in Nashville on May 10 and Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on June 7.
To accommodate the baseball games in football stadiums, the Bananas plan to install netting at least 50 feet high to prevent easy home runs in the shorter outfield dimensions. This move is in line with their tradition of adding comedic elements to their games, making Banana Ball a truly one-of-a-kind experience for fans.
The Bananas, originally a summer league team for college players, have gained immense popularity for their carnival-style approach to the sport. With choreographed dance routines, players on stilts, and unconventional rules, they have captured the hearts of over 1 million fans this year alone. The team's goal for next year is to reach 2 million fans, as they continue to expand their reach and create a unique sporting experience.
Cole emphasized that the Bananas are not just a novelty act but a serious sports team, pointing out that their games are competitive and the outcomes are not predetermined. The team's success has led to opportunities to play at major league stadiums across the country, with plans to headline 18 weekends at such venues in 2025.
In addition to their national tours, the Bananas remain rooted in their hometown of Savannah, where they play at the historic Grayson Stadium. Despite their travels, Savannah holds a special place in the team's heart as the birthplace of their journey.
Looking ahead, the Bananas are expanding their league with the addition of a new team, the Texas Tailgaters, and plans to launch the Banana Ball Championship League in 2026. With dreams of reaching 2 million fans, establishing their own league, and continuing to entertain audiences with their unique brand of baseball, the Savannah Bananas are setting their sights high for the future.
