As staunch lovers of pastry, us Brits seriously enjoy a tasty treat from Greggs. Whether it's a bean and sausage melt or a sausage roll, there's nothing quite as comforting as tucking into a hot snack from the much-loved high street bakery.
If you've not got a local branch nearby, or simply want to save some pennies and re-create your favourite savoury snack at home, you're in luck as one foodie has found the perfect way to re-create Greggs ' classic sausage roll in your own kitchen.
The main struggle with homemade sausage rolls is crafting that perfectly puffed pastry, but one woman has shared her secret to creating that gloriously flaky crunch with a household appliance that many of us have at home.
Owing to the cost of living crisis, many Brits have invested in a trusty air fryer, as not only do they help create delicious meals with ease, they can be far cheaper to run than an oven.
Becky Excell, known as @ beckyexcell on TikTok, has wowed viewers with her wonderfully golden sausage rolls that she created in the air fryer - and she believes they're a better option than Greggs.
Sharing her creation on the social media platform, UK-based Becky showcased her delicious-looking sausage rolls with her followers, and controversially said: "I must admit, I love a big sausage roll but Greggs just isn't for me, so I make my own".
"The best way to do it, I think, is in the air fryer," she claims, before sharing a tutorial on how she created her savoury treat.
All you need is some sausages, a pack of shop-bought pastry and an egg to glaze, and you'll have lunch at the ready in "just 15 minutes".
Becky starts by skinning the sausages to remove the meat and then rolls her pastry out and cuts it in half.
She then adds a dash of wholegrain mustard to the pastry for extra flavour, before adding the sausage meat on top.
The foodie says the recipe is 'super quick and easy' as she finishes off by adding egg wash to the smaller side of the pastry and folding it over.
Becky then crimps the edges of the pastry with a fork to make sure it stays sealed and finishes off by cutting slits into the top of the sausage roll to avoid any filling spillages.
The woman finishes her simple tutorial by adding one last egg glaze to create that golden finish before popping the rolls into her air fryer for 12-14 minutes at 200C.
As the places her sausage rolls in to the air fryer, Becky explains: "Another thing I really like about making these in the air fryer is that any excess fat drips through the basket so they're never soggy. No soggy bottoms here."
The foodie then unveils the finished product - gloriously golden sausage rolls that take just 15 minutes to cook.
People flooded to the comments section on the video to praise the air fryer hack, with one writing: "Greggs sausage rolls are good but not a patch on homemade ones. And you're right, they're so easy".
Another added: "I've done it brilliant xx thank you for showing me how to do it x I love them".
A third commenter offered advice for anyone looking to make their own, writing: "Adding chorizo to the sausage meat is epic".
