Saumya Tandon recalls facing eve-teasing in her younger days; shares ‘once a guy stopped by and smeared sindoor on me’

Saumya Tandon, who is known for her role as Anita Bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, recalled facing eve-teasing during her younger days. The actress, who spent her childhood in Ujjain, recalled incidents of men stalking, clicking pictures in small towns.

In an interview with a digital site, Saumya recalled her school days saying, “I would go to school on a cycle. And in those days guys would overtake the girls and rush. Once I was going to school and two guys on a scooter came diverting towards me and overtook me. I fell from the cycle. I got a crack on my forehead and I went to the hospital.”

The actress further recalled walking alone at night and said that while passing through a boys hostel, the boys would stand to click pictures. She narrated another shocking incident, “It was winter night and one guy came on a bike and smeared sindoor on my forehead.”

Saumya shared that all these incidents had scarred her in childhood and instilled fear in her. She also shared that Bollywood films have always glorified ‘stalking’, where men have no fear and think at the end the ‘ladki pat jayegi’. “In small towns that’s what people are taught through Bollywood films that if you follow a girl, throw sindoor on her, the girl will be yours,” Saumya said.

Saumya has currently taken a break from TV projects and is working independently.
