The second phase of the Adequate Housing Project in Yemen’s Aden Governorate has started upon which a total of 170 houses will be renovated in partnership between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), the United Nations Human Settlements Program, UN-Habitat, and Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP).
The second phase of the project, which aims at improving the living conditions of families in Aden, will be carried out in Aden’s Al-Mualla district after completing the first phase there with the delivery of 150 housing units to beneficiaries.
The Adequate Housing Project contributes to providing targeted Yemeni families with decent living conditions and renovating the houses to be secure and resilient in the face of possible risks.
Under the project, expected to benefit over 4200 people, a total of 600 housing units will be renovated for Yemeni limited-income segments.
The project also includes a special capacity-building program that seeks to enhance the skills of the Yemeni human cadres in the housing field as well as a vocational training program designed for 200 young people.
The project has provided a capacity-building training program for 40 Yemeni engineers in the housing sector, covering a variety of topics, including geographical systems, project management, technical and economic feasibility studies, among others.
The project's data revealed that it strives to improve the skills of Yemeni engineers and offer vocational training to jobless youths through a partnership with the University of Aden. The initiative has also provided project management training in construction for engineers from the Ministry of Public Works and Roads.
SDRPY has provided 229 development projects and initiatives implemented in several Yemeni governorates, covering the seven basic sectors of education, health, water, energy, transport, agriculture and capacity building.
The program executed educational projects and initiatives to improve enrollment opportunities for both male and female students, enhance academic proficiency among higher education learners, provide comprehensive and motivating educational experiences, boost innovation and creativity, and ensure secure transportation.
Furthermore, the program contributed to Yemen’s wellbeing by establishing a comprehensive Operations and Intensive Care Center in Al-Mahra governorate, strengthening medical services for Al-Ghaydah General Hospital.
Developmental projects and initiatives were also implemented to enhance the health sector, including the construction, renovation, and equipping of medical facilities and the capacity building of medical personnel to bolster healthcare capabilities across Yemen’s governorates.
Additionally, the Saudi program implemented 33 developmental projects and initiatives to support the water sector, such as diversifying water sources, improving water distribution in urban and rural areas, managing water resources, and meeting daily water needs in various Yemeni governorates.
