Saudi Arabia welcomed on Thursday the agreement to reinforce the two-month nationwide truce in Yemen on the occasion of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.
Military representatives of the Government of Yemen, Iran-backed Houthi militias and the Coalition’s Joint Forces Command had agreed to take steps to build more trust and reinforce their commitment to the truce for the holiday.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry praised the efforts exerted by UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg in bolstering the truce in line with the Saudi initiative that was declared in March 2021 with the aim to resolve the Yemeni crisis and reach a comprehensive political solution.
It stressed the Kingdom’s firm commitment towards Yemen’s security and stability.
The Saudi initiative, said the ministry, aims to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire so that the political process between the legitimate government and Houthis could be he kicked off.
It also stressed the need for the parties to commit to the current truce and speed up the reopening of routes to the Houthi-besieged Taiz province.
