Saudi Minister of State, Member of the Council of Ministers, and National Security Advisor, Musaad bin Mohammed Al-Aiban stressed on Friday that the agreement reached between Saudi Arabia and Iran on restoring diplomatic ties capped deep discussions that tackled the reasons of the differences and ways to address them.
He added that the new chapter in relations would be based on committing to and respecting international treaties.
In remarks during the closing round of talks that preceded the signing of the agreement, he said the Saudi leadership’s welcoming of the initiative proposed by China’s President Xi Jinping to develop relations between Riyadh and Tehran stems from the Kingdom’s firm commitment to dialogue since the days of its founding.
The Kingdom is constantly committed to anything that would bolster the security and stability of the region and world and it always adopts dialogue and diplomacy to resolve differences, he added.
The agreement capped weeklong deep discussions that were backed by the Saudi, Iranian and Chinese leaderships, said Al-Aiban.
The Kingdom was keen on opening on a new chapter in ties that would be based on committing to the United Nations Charter, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international treaties and norms, he stressed.
The agreement underscores respect for the sovereignty of nations and refraining from meddling in their internal affairs. “This is the basis for developing relations between countries and bolstering the security and stability of our region,” he declared.
This will benefit Saudi Arabia and Iran and the region as a whole, and bolster regional and international peace and security, he remarked.
He hoped that constructive dialogue would continue in line with the agreement.
