Stephen Mulhern has broken his silence on why he’s been absent from Saturday Night Takeaway, telling fans he’s taking a break “on doctors orders”
Stephen has only appeared in one episode of the ITV show’s new series so far, with viewers left wondering where he is, having been thoroughly entertained by the In for the Penny host in series gone by.
His absence has yet to be mentioned on screen by Takeaway presenters Ant and Dec but now Stephen has taken to social media to address it.

Hours before this weekend’s show, he told his many followers: Hello all, Sorry I’ve been quiet on here recently and thank you for all your lovely messages.
"I’ve had some time off and been resting up on doctors orders. I’m on the mend, I’m happy to say, and looking forward to getting back to work soon. In the meantime...
"I’ll put my feet up and watch Saturday Night Takeaway tonight with the rest of you lot. Please don’t miss me too much! Lots of love, Stephen. X"
Swift to reply, one fan replied: "Oh I’m sorry to hear you have been unwell, glad to hear you are in the mend, please take it easy and rest up. Everyone has been very worried about you," with a second telling the host: "Can't wait to see you're back on our TV screens Steven we have missed you get well soon be safe and look after yourself that's under your fans orders OK."
At the start of last month, Stephen stepped in for Phillip Schofield on Dancing on Ice, after the presenter was forced to miss the show for the first time after contracting Covid.
Phillip had hoped to make it back in time for the Sunday live show, having isolated all week, but still tested positive on day 5 and 6, meaning he couldn't leave isolation.
Saturday night’s show will see Ant and Dec joined by Sam Fender for the End of the Show Show.
