Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt shares update from hospital bed after emergency surgery

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt revealed he has had emergency surgery on an infected kidney at a Welsh hospital.

The chef, 48, who lives in Monmouthshire, shared a photo from his hospital bed on a morphine drip at The Grange Hospital in Cwmbran on Instagram on Wednesday.

Matt said he was 'so grateful' to the NHS after having an appendectomy - surgery to remove the appendix when it is infected.

He said: "Me, a morphine drip and an emergency appendectomy are keeping me from a much anticipated lunch at @manteca_london ….but everything and everyone here at The Grange hospital in Gwent have been fantastic. Couldn’t ask for more from such a brilliant health service. So grateful"

It is his second hospital visit in recent months.

In July, he thanked medical staff at Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny after he twice needed treatment for a cat bite.

The presenter showed his patched up finger to Saturday Kitchen viewers as he praised the medical team who had looked after him, but he didn't explain why he had to go twice.

Matt's first appearance on Saturday Kitchen was in October, 2009, and he often presented the show when former host James Martin was away. Following James' departure in 2016, Matt became the new lead presenter.
