Sarah Jessica Parker's stepdad has died unexpectedly.
The Sex and the City icon, 57, pulled out of a work event this week, due to a family emergency. Sarah was due to attend the glitzy New York City Ballet 2022 Fall Fashion Gala last night and take part in a press conference for her upcoming and long-anticipated movie, Hocus Pocus 2.
However, the actress' family later confirmed the death of Paul Giffin Forste, aged 76, after an "unexpected" illness.
They said in a statement today: "Our family is sad to announce that after an unexpected and rapid illness, Paul Giffin Forste passed away yesterday at age 76.
"In his last moments he was surrounded with the love and gratitude of his adored wife Barbara of 54 years, and children, including Sarah Jessica Parker."
The statement went on: "Paul will be remembered with the spirit of loving kindness which was his faith, his special delight in his 13 grandchildren, and his sustained belief in making the world a more charitable, tolerant, and beautiful place for all."
Sarah's mum, Barbara, married Paul in 1969.
Sarah is married to Ferris Bueller's Day Off actor Matthew Broderick, 60, and the pair share a son, James, and two daughters, Tabitha and Marion.
Earlier this week, Sarah, Matthew and their daughters attended the premiere to the sequel of 1993's Hocus Pocus.
The 13-year-old twins both showcased peep-toe heels from the mum's fashion brand SJP Collection.
While Marion wore the footwear with a strapless cocktail dress, Tabitha toned down the look a bit by wearing a plain black mini-dress.
Sarah wore a silver Mandarin top with a pink floral print and Matthew looked smart in a brown suit and tie combo.
The event marked a rare family appearance, with their last outing happening in March as the family celebrated the opening-night performance of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite.
As well as Hocus Pocus, Sarah is working on the second series of And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City.
Earlier this week she confirmed that John Corbett, 61 is reprising his role as Aidan Shaw, Carrie Bradshaw's ex, in the HBO Max show.
The actress was talking to Entertainment Tonight when she said she can't be 'cryptic' about the situation anymore.
Addressing the rumours she said: "Could be, could be. Well, you know, I can't be like, cryptic about it anymore."
The character of Aidan was last seen in the 2010 spin-off movie Sex and the City 2, in which he took Carrie (SJP's character) on a dinner date and kissed her, despite her being married to her now-late husband Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth.
It's thought that season two will bring furniture maker Aidan back and he is reportedly set for a 'substantial, multi-episode arc'.
When season one of the Sex And The City sequel was in production last year, John joked that he would be making an appearance in the reboot.
However, fans were disappointed that the actor never appeared in any of the episodes.
