Sarah Beeny discusses emotional moment she told children of her cancer diagnosis

Property Ladder star Sarah Beeny has revealed details of the heartbreaking conversation she had with her four children in which she told them of her breast cancer diagnosis.

The 50-year old presenter, who shares Billy, 18, Charlie, 16, Rafferty, 14 and Laurie, 12 with husband Graham Swift, first went public with the news of her condition earlier this week.

The property expert lost her own mum, Ann, to the disease 40 years ago when she was just ten-years old and naturally broke down after learning she had it too - something she felt was always inevitable.

After being told by her nurse of the diagnosis, Sarah said she 'knew she was going to hear those words one day'.

The star went on to reveal that she decided to be candid about telling her kids - in stark contrast to her own childhood in which she wasn't told about her mum's condition.

Sarah told the Telegraph : "My eldest came in and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. He said 'Are you all right? You haven't got cancer or something, have you?'

"I said, 'Um, I have, actually'. He said, 'Sorry?' I said, 'Yeah, I have'.

"Then the others came in, we had a little chat and it was kind of fine. They just said, 'You will be honest?, and I said, 'I promise you that I'm going to be around for a jolly long time yet'."

Sarah has since announced she is fighting the disease through a course of chemotherapy, which she started last week and will also start a course of radiotherapy in the new year.

To help their mum prepare for the treatment, the boys even cut hair off for her rather than waiting to let it fall out because of the chemo. However, she joked she wouldn't advise anyone to let four teenage boys loose on their hair.

She mocked her brood, saying they aren't going to be famous hairdressers, but explained that despite the tears beforehand, there was a sense of elation after.

The presenter went on to add that she plans to draw on her "inner strength" throughout her treatment process.

Despite her diagnosis, Sarah is adamant she will continue working and has her sights focused on a new Channel 4 series.

She also has a book which is set for release later in the year.
