She became very emotional talking about having to tell her own children she had cancer but she said she was determined she would get better for their sakes. Welling up as she talked to the cameras, Sarah said: "I'm just not going to die, you do know that. I've got a whole life where I'm needed, I've got four children, people need their mother."

Wiping her tears away Sarah reflected on her own loss, she said: "Because the truth is, I kinda needed my mother." Sarah also became emotional in the documentary when she said she had been waiting for a breast cancer diagnosis for 40 years, after losing her mum.

Her older sons, Billy who is 18 and Charlie who is 16, said learning their mum had cancer "hit quite hard" and they worried that their mum was going to die. Due to her cancer treatment, Sarah had to miss some of the performances of her sons' band, named Entitled Sons, of which their dad and Sarah's husband Graham Swift is also a member. You can read more about Sarah's family here.

The band has released a single dedicated to their mother called Unconditional. The cover art merged Sarah and Charlie’s faces together. In the documentary when they perform the song, with Sarah missing one of their gigs for the first time, they give her a shout out.

Sarah Beeny v Cancer is on Channel 4 on Monday, June 12 at 9pm and you can catch it on All4.
