Sara Cox has detailed how a Ukrainian refugee and her newborn baby lived with her - and Cox was even present for the birth.
The Radio 2 host, 49, welcomed the pregnant woman into her home for six months, describing her as “part of the family now”.
Cox explained to The Times how the front room in her home was transformed to accommodate her guest, saying: “We had a Ukrainian guest sleeping in there for six months. She had a baby recently.
“She’s part of the family now. I was at the birth and she came back here with her new-born, so this room has been very much a private area for this mum and baby.”
The radio host, who has three teenage children, Lola, 19, Isaac, 16, and Renee, 14, mentioned that the room needed redecorating after her guest moved out.
“When she left, it needed to be rebirthed itself and begin its story again,” she said.
Cox is just one of many celebrities who opened their homes up to refugees who fled Ukraine following the Russian invasion in 2022.
Chris Tarrant, Rachel Riley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rod Stewart and Tory MPs Matt Hancock and Grant Shapps also hosted.
Tarrant told MailOnline in February of the refugees he hosted: “There are three of them: a grandmother, a mum, and her baby daughter. They came to live with us when the baby was just seven months old. I've moved them into a nice flat I got for them about 18 months ago. We see them a lot, and they came to spend Christmas with us.”
Countdown star Riley told BBC Breakfast: “Our little girls absolutely love having this little boy; it’s like they’ve got an extra brother. He’s had to grow up before his years, but it’s just a brilliant thing to be able to do, and we’re just getting on like one big family.”
Strictly star Motsi Mabuse and her Ukrainian husband, Evgenij Vozynuk, have also welcomed several refugees into their home in Germany.
Mabuse commented: “Now we have about 10 people living with us - our family and refugees. Our life has become different, perhaps forever.”
Newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky hosted a family that arrived in the UK with just one small suitcase.
She explained: “I come from a family of refugees, and I was very lucky, so I felt it was my responsibility to provide a home for a Ukrainian family.”
While actor Cumberbatch signed up for the Homes For Ukraine scheme and provided a home for a family after they received medical treatment.
He stated: "I want to give them some stability after the turmoil that they’ve experienced.”
