Two Santa Clara County adults have tested positive for West Nile virus, the first human cases confirmed anywhere in the Bay Area this year, and county mosquito control staff have now detected virus-positive mosquitoes locally for the first time in 2026.
One of the two patients was hospitalized. The other was treated in an emergency department. Both have been released and are recovering at home, according to the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, which announced the cases on July 29. The two cases are unrelated, and no further identifying details were released.
