The controversy around the Gyanvapi Masjid isn't recent but took root three decades ago with L K Advani's Ram Janmabhoomi Rath Yatra. In response to communal violence, the Indian parliament had passed the Places of Worship Act, 1991 – the law being cited in the Gyanvapi case 32 years later.
