Manchester United will be looking to channel their inner Tyson Fury and bounce back up from the canvas to land a knockout blow to Aston Villa in Thursday’s League Cup clash.
They will still be bruised from Sunday’s flattening 3-1 defeat to the Villains in what was Unai Emery’s debut bout. The Reds went into the contest below full strength with a number of players sidelined with knocks.
Thanks to the World Cup, United will be on a break when Manchester-born Fury steps into the ring with Derek Chisora in three weeks’ time, but the club still have two more outings to feature in before the pause.

Fulham await on Sunday but United must first seek revenge in Thursday’s rematch against Villa. They may have a few more of their key players back from injury in their corner for the first Carabao Cup showdown of the season.
Antony
The Brazilian has missed the last three fixtures due to a leg injury but could be back for the welcome of Villa to Old Trafford. His absence has allowed Alejandro Garnacho to show his credentials but there is no question who owns the right-wing spot.
Erik ten Hag said on Wednesday that a late decision would be made on players' fitness after training so fans may have to wait until the team is announced to find out if Antony is fit enough to play.
Possible United return date: November 10
Jadon Sancho
Sancho has also not featured in the last three matches but like Antony could be in line for a return to action. The winger, who faces an anxious wait to find out if he has made England’s World Cup squad, missed the clash with Real Sociedad and Villa through illness.
Sancho has not been among Ten Hag’s first choice picks in the recent weeks before he fell unwell although could be integrated back into the side if Antony is still not ready.
Possible United return date: November 10
Raphael Varane
Another United player struggling with injury, Varane will know his World Cup fate by kick-off on Thursday. France boss Didier Deschamos outlined how he will not be taking injured players to Qatar.
Varane ’s knee problem suffered against Chelsea last month risks his inclusion and he will not be back for United before the break.
Possible United return date: December 27
