Samsung is currently in the process of rolling out a suite of new AI features to select Galaxy users as part of the One UI 6.1 update. This update, which was initially exclusive to the Galaxy S24, is now being extended to older devices released in 2023, including the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, the latest Fold and Flip handsets, and the Tab S9 series.
Users of Galaxy S23 devices have reported receiving notifications about the impending update, with emails confirming the arrival of One UI 6.1. The update is expected to introduce AI tools such as Live Translate, Circle to Search, Note Assist, and generative image editing to eligible devices.
While Galaxy S23 owners have started receiving notifications globally, users of Fold 5, Flip 5, and Tab S9 devices have yet to be contacted. Samsung's decision to offer these features for free is seen as a strategic move, potentially paving the way for future subscription-based services. The company has assured that Galaxy AI features will remain free until at least the end of 2025.
Recent reports indicate that One UI 6.1 is now being rolled out to users, with early access granted to some, including SamMobile. Testing the update on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has revealed that all AI features from the Galaxy S24 have been successfully integrated into the foldable phone. The larger display of the Fold 5 enhances features like Circle to Search and generative picture editing, providing users with more space for intricate edits.
Aside from the AI features, the update brings improvements such as smoother UI animations, enhanced battery protection features, and a new 'single take' feature in the camera app. As the rollout continues, users can expect to explore additional enhancements and hidden gems within the One UI 6.1 update.
