Samsung’s two new foldable phones have been leaked before their expected launch at an event next week.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 will sport a 50-megapixel back camera for the first time, its biggest battery yet, and pack a string of AI features. That’s according to product pages shared by prolific smartphone leaker Evan Blass on Substack.
Meanwhile, the tablet-style Fold 6 is set to be a more svelte device than its predecessor.
Blass, who goes by @evleaks on X (formerly Twitter), has shared some high-quality photos that offer the best look yet at the two bendy phones. The leaks come before Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris on July 10, where the Korean firm is expected to unveil the flagship phones with their AI features (more on those below).
Flip phone gets a mega upgrade
The Z Flip 6 is shaping up to be a big improvement over its predecessors. If you’ve never tried it, all you need to know is that it sports two screens: an internal folding display that opens like a clamshell, and a small one on the outside for glancing at notifications when the phone is flipped shut.
This time, the Flip 6 is rumoured to boast a bigger 50-megapixel camera, a meaty upgrade from the previous 12-megapixel one. That should result in even sharper snaps with stunning details.
The battery life is getting a boost too (from 3,700 mAh to 4,000 mAh), providing enough juice for up to 20 hours of web browsing on WiFi — making it perfect for those long journeys.
One of the neatest AI features is the new personal interpreter function. Say you’re talking to someone who speaks a different language, the Flip 6 can translate what you say and display it on the phone’s smaller screen for them to read. That could be indispensable for travelling or chatting with friends from overseas.
Samsung’s Fold gets a sleeker look
How time flies. Samsung is now on its sixth Fold phone, having launched the ultra-premium model in 2019. Since then, it has refined the device with every new iteration, bumping up the dual screens, battery, and chip.
The Z Fold 6 might not be a massive overhaul, but Samsung has seemingly made some agreeable tweaks. Leaks suggest a slightly bigger front screen and a slimmer design, making it lighter to carry around. The battery stays the same size, but you'll get nifty AI features such as automatic note-taking and translation tools.
The Flip and Fold are also set to have Google’s Circle to Search. This will let you look up anything on your screen online by simply circling it — which should work even better with the Fold’s S-Pen stylus.
But, at £1,749 for the Fold 5, the price could be the dealbreaker for most people. By comparison, the Flip 5 starts from £1,049.
More goodies are on the way
The rumours don't stop there. Samsung might also unveil at its event additional gadgets, including a smartwatch, earbuds, and even a smart ring.
Roll on July 10.
