Samsung Electronics has announced the enhancement of its voice assistant Bixby in home appliances, providing users with improved AI capabilities. The upgraded Bixby, set to roll out starting August 27, will feature advanced comprehension abilities for understanding complex commands based on natural language, offering a more seamless device control experience for consumers.
The EVP and Head of Software Development Team of Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the company's commitment to enhancing user experiences through the development and evolution of home appliances. The upgraded Bixby aims to simplify appliance usage and deliver a more personalized user experience.
Samsung introduced several AI-enabled home appliances earlier this year, including the Bespoke 4-Door French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ AI, and Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™. With the upgraded Bixby, Samsung is taking a step further to enrich consumer experiences by introducing new features.
Bixby: Better Voice Control for Appliances
The enhanced Bixby offers improved voice control through three main capabilities - understanding complex commands (Multi-Intent), recalling previous conversations (Multi-Turn), and responding to product-related questions (Device Q&A). The update will initially be available for five products launched in 2024, including refrigerators, laundry combos, slide-in ranges, and air conditioners.
Users can now issue multiple or unrelated requests in a single command, control other connected devices more naturally, and engage in ongoing dialogues with appliances. Bixby can also assist users in troubleshooting appliance issues or answering queries about specific features.
Generative Wallpaper: A Unique Background for Each User's Family Hub™ Screen
In addition to the Bixby upgrade, Samsung is introducing a new feature called Generative Wallpaper for refrigerators with Family Hub™ screens. This feature allows users to create custom wallpapers by selecting themes and art styles, enabling a unique background for each user's Family Hub™ screen.
Users can choose from various categories and styles to generate personalized wallpapers, which can be applied to the cover screen, whiteboard, or saved for future use. Samsung plans to showcase the upgraded Bixby and Generative Wallpaper features on Bespoke AI appliances at IFA 2024 to provide consumers with a hands-on experience of the enhanced user interface.
