'Samrat Prithviraj' box office collection Day 3: Akshay Kumar starrer sees good growth on Sunday; earns Rs 39 crore on first weekend

Akshay Kumar's historical flick 'Samrat Prithviraj' may have been off to a slow start on Friday, but going by the latest reports, the film picked up its collections to record a good first weekend at the box office.

The film which earned only Rs 10.75 crore on its opening day, earned Rs 12.50 crore on Saturday and saw an even better growth at the ticket window, earning Rs 16 crore on Sunday. According to boxofficeindia.com, the business was earned only in parts of India.

The film was basically driven by collections coming in from UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and MP and thus rounded off its first weekend at the box office with a nett collection of around Rs 39 crore nett.

As far as the number game is concerned, the film recorded low business in Maharashtra which did better on Sunday but has not really picked up in ticket sales. The film will need to secure its hold over the ticket window on Monday to have a successful run at the box office, say trade experts.

The film's weekend collection is now the third-highest for a Hindi post-pandemic release. The film stands behind Akshay's 'Sooryavanshi' and Kartik Aaryan's 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2'.

The film shared its weekend at the box office with South releases like Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' and Adivi Sesh's 'Major. While 'Vikram' crossed Rs 90 crore in its first two days, 'Major' took home Rs 25.4 crore in just 2 days with Akshay's 'Samrat Prithviraj' lagging behind.

'Samrat Prithviraj' was reportedly produced on a Rs 300-crore budget and opened across 4,590 screens. The film was even promoted by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who made it tax-free in their state, whereas 'Vikram' is a Tamil-only film running on 3,200 screens and 'Major', made with a budget of Rs 30 crore, has been playing on only 1,460 screens.
