Harry Winks is still waiting to make his Sampdoria bow after linking up with the Italian side at the end of the summer transfer window. Not in Antonio Conte's Tottenham plans for the new campaign and allowed to move on, the midfielder headed to Italy on a season-long loan deal with Sampdoria having an option in their agreement to purchase him next summer.
Greeting the crowd and his new teammates after their 1-1 draw with Lazio two weeks ago, Winks was unfortunately not named in the matchday squad for the 2-1 defeats against Verona and AC Milan. Believed to be carrying an ankle issue at present and not there in terms of his physical condition just yet, Sampdoria are clearly not wanting to push him too much and risk aggravating the problem further.
Although training away from the first team once again on Monday, the 26-year-old's fitness is heading in the right direction and he will train alongside his teammates next week, according to Sampdoria president Marco Lanna. The midfielder is intent on making an impression at his new club and his target is to prove to Tottenham that they "made a mistake" in letting him go.

"Winks resumes training this week and re-joins the group next week, so I’m told," said Lanna at a charity event, as reported by Club Doria 46 (via Sport Witness). "For us, he can be very important. He’s a player who wants to play. He’s not afraid of pain.
"I’m confident that he will take the field as soon as he can. He wants to prove that Tottenham made a mistake. You will see it when he’s on the pitch."
Following their game away at Spezia on Saturday evening, Sampdoria return to action after the international break with a showdown at home against fellow strugglers Monza. Games against Bologna and Roma then follow for Winks and Sampdoria.
