Samajwadi Party: Two-day National Executive meeting begins in Kolkata

Kolkata: A two-day National Executive meeting of the Samajwadi Party (SP) began in Kolkata on Saturday to discuss the party's policies and strategies for the assembly elections in three Hindi heartland states later this year and the Lok Sabha polls next year.

According to Dynamite News correspondent, the National Executive meeting of the party is being held in Kolkata after a gap of 11 years. Earlier, Samajwadi Party founder late Mulayam Singh Yadav had come to the city to preside over the then National Executive meeting.

Samajwadi Party national vice-president Kiranmoy Nanda said, "We will discuss the party's strategy for the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh later this year and then for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The party will also endorse a political resolution after the meeting."

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party on Friday agreed to fight the 2024 Lok Sabha elections together against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), keeping the Congress out of any such alliance.

"It has been decided that Trinamool and SP will fight BJP together. Both the parties will also maintain distance from the Congress," Nanda said

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav had said on Friday that his party was following a policy of maintaining equal distance from the BJP as well as the Congress.
