Sam Smith critics label singer's show as 'vulgar and satanic' as fans defend star

Critics of Sam Smith have labelled one of the singer's recent live performances on the Gloria tour as 'vulgar and satanic'.

Despite this, Sam's fans have been quick to defend them, with many saying that they have been loving the tour's aesthetics and themes. The recent performance that has sparked a response from some, has seen the star, 30, take to the stage in devil horns, sheer veils and fishnets among other getups.

As reported by the Mirror, one of Sam's recent Instagram posts hit with a wave of nasty comments and unsolicited feedback regarding their 'sexualised' performance.

Some social media users were particularly critical of the non-binary star's use of religious imagery while others branded their shows as 'extreme'.

"[They're] taking entertainment to extreme levels! When you have the voice, I don't understand the need to sexualise a performance like that," one Twitter user wrote after watching footage from Sam's show.

"The rest of us don't want satanic erotica," another declared, as a third social media user, who seemingly didn't attend the concert, added: "This is vulgar and satanic."

Sam would be following in the footsteps of the likes of Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga, who have all also sparked controversary thanks to incorporating religion into their art.

Sam's fans have hit back at their critics and applauded the star for embracing their body and expressing themselves.

"You can tell that Sam is living their best LIFE," one fan commented underneath their latest Instagram post, with another adding: "BUAHAHHA people’s heads are exploding and I love it."

A third argued: "If you don’t like seeing what they do or how they dress . You can stop seeing it with one click.

"Its been a while now they post their new styles it’s not new. You can stop it. It’s less buttons to push compared to writing a hateful comment. #stopthehate."
