Sam Ryder bags Eurovision 'win' for the UK before official final

The UK's competitor for Eurovision has already been named the winner!

Sadly, it was during a rehearsal for tonight's (May 14) final, reports ChronicleLive. The final of Eurovision will air at 8pm, which will include the jury final, when each act performs for the juries from each of the 25 countries participating.

By the time it airs there will already have been several rehearsals, which includes a run through of the voting aspects of the evening. Sam Ryder from the UK was named the winner during last night's rehearsal.

A journalist at the arena in Turin posted on Twitter: “They just said it. ‘The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is the United Kingdom. Even just hearing that out loud sounds weird.”

Another reacted: “OK well the UK won the fake Jury results...this means they won't win the actual thing.”

Following rehearsals, all had to perform for the juries to decide their scores before viewers and Australia cast their votes. After the rehearsals, things got much more serious for all those involved when they performed for the juries, to determine their scores before viewers across the continent and Australia have their say in the crucial televote.

Fans could buy tickets to be at the jury final, and Sam received rave reviews following his performance. The BBC Eurovision account tweeted: “Our man @SamRyderMusic has JUST sung his head off in the #Eurovision Jury Final! And he smashed it.”

A Eurovision expert reacted: “Another big favourite with the crowd tonight. Sam Ryder’s vocals are completely insane, and he exudes joy from start to finish.”
