Sam Raimi set to return as director for Benedict Cumberbatch starrer 'Doctor Strange 3'?

Perhaps sooner than we thought, the most powerful sorcerer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Doctor Strage - will return to the big screen. A new report from Jeff Sneider, suggests that Sam Raimi may have "all but closed a deal" to return to helm a third Doctor Strange film starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead.

Raimi took up the project from original filmmaker Scott Derrickson in 2022, having already directed 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. Buzz is that Marvel may be eyeing a 2027 release for the film between 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars'.

This confirmation comes shortly after Cumberbatch confirmed his character's presence in 'Avengers: Doomsday' which is slated for a May 2026 release.

Although the plot of 'Doctor Strange 3' is currently unknown, it is rumoured that the film will pick up where 'Multiverse of Madness' left off, with Charlize Theron and Cumberbatch collaborating to fight alien forces.

Doctor Strange is expected to play a leading role in the upcoming Avengers films. Cumberbatch is touted to lead the team along with Tom Holland's Spider-Man. The film will also see the return of Robert Downey Jr of the MCU, but this time as the villain Doctor Doom.

Meanwhile, rumours are rife that director Raimi is also in talks of a potential Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire, the director has expressed interest in going back to that universe—as long as the narrative makes sense.
