Sam Lammers backed to get a second chance at Rangers

Sam Lammers should be given a second chance at Rangers this summer.

That's the viewpoint of former Ibrox defender Craig Moore.

The 27-year-old was a big-money arrival last summer under Michael Beale. He joined from Atalanta for a fee of around £3.5m.

Things couldn't have gone much worse for the playmaker in Glasgow though, and he very quickly found himself out of the team, especially after Philippe Clement's arrival.

He was farmed out on loan to Utrecht in January, with most fans probably thinking that was the last they'd hear or see of Lammers.

To his credit though, the 27-year-old has gone on to score 10 goals in 18 games in his homeland, and that has led to Moore calling for the player to be given pre-season at Rangers to see if he could yet ignite his career at Ibrox.

He told Go Radio's Football Show: "Bring him back and have a look at him in pre-season. Sometimes it doesn't work out for a player immediately. I don't think it worked out for Ally McCoist in the earlier period. Super, everyone loves him and he was incredible.

"Of course business is business and it might be something that Rangers snap up. It didn't work out for him at Rangers, he's had a great spell at Utrecht. But you can also have a look at him at pre-season. I don't think he played his proper position. Was a 10 at Rangers. He's been playing as an out-and-out-striker at Utrecht."

Fellow pundit John Hartson pushed back: "Not sure. I'd be more reluctant. First time round the fans quickly turned and thought 'he's not good enough'.

"I think he's done very well (at Utrecht). Scored a few goals, probably surprised a few people and I would just take what you get for him now.
