Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has thanked fans for their well wishes after her grandmother, Coral Kerr, was allegedly hit by a car on Friday. A 63-year-old man has since been charged for allegedly hitting the 89-year-old with a vehicle.
On Sunday (local time), the Australian sports icon took to Instagram to thank fans for all their well wishes regarding a car crash involving her beloved grandmother.
“Thank you for all the messages, love and prayers for my Nan,” Kerr wrote in white text on a black background.
Over the weekend, the Matildas skipper was in the Hunter Valley alongside a bunch of other beloved footballers for Tillies teammate Emily Van Egmond‘s wedding.
Fans have since left messages of support for Sam and Coral under her recent IG post, with many offering their thoughts and prayers.
“Just heard about Grandma Kerr, prayers for a speedy recovery,” one fan wrote.
“I just saw the news about your Nan — I hope she is ok. Sending prayers to her and your family,” another commented.
“Praying for your Nan!!!! Keeping her and your family in my thoughts and prayers,” wrote a third.
On Sunday, Kerr arrived in Perth to be with her grandmother at Royal Perth Hospital.
“She’s a bit shocked,” Roger Kerr, Sam’s father, told reports at Perth Airport, per 9News.
“She’s gone straight there to see her grandmother now and we’ll follow.”
On Friday, Coral was allegedly hit by a car while she was getting off a bus at the intersection of Marmion Street and Justinian Street in Palmyra before 11am.
Witnesses claim a ute was trying to overtake a bus at the intersection when it reportedly mounted the footpath, hitting a power pole and allegedly hitting Coral, 9News reports.
The grandmother is now at Royal Perth Hospital in a serious but stable condition and is undergoing surgery for a broken ankle, femur and hip. It’s also reported that she suffered a concussion during the incident.
The driver, a 63-year-old man, has since been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm. The driver told 9News the crash was unintentional.
He is set to face court next year.
