Sam Fender's 'wicked' night out with Paolo Nutini as he looks forward to TRNSMT reunion

Sam Fender reminisced about a wild night out after TRNSMT festival last year when he went on the razz with Paolo Nutini.

The two musicians met after the festival in September, and the duo quickly bonded as the Seventeen Going Under singer told how Paolo gave him piggy backs around Glasgow Green.

This year is set to be a big year for the Scottish singer-songwriter as fans are eagerly expecting new music after he was announced as a headliner for TRNSMT.

Sam told Clyde 1: “It was a magical night last time I played here and I went on the razz with Paolo Nutini after.

"It was wicked. He was just giving us piggy back rides everywhere, it was really funny."

Fender admitted he could do a semi-decent Scottish accent and impersonated Nutini, adding: "He just turned up after it and said: Here I've got you a present, a wee bottle of whisky. You've got to have this man, it's going to be great.

"It was just absolutely class, it was hilarious. The next thing you know I was riding Paolo Nutini around the festival."

The fast friends are both set to play TRNSMT again this year, where they hope to be reunited, to which Fender joked: “Yes we are going to have to get round to it. I’ll ride a Paolo Nutini out on to the stage and then ride him out into the sunset.”

The Sun previously reported that both Lewis Capaldi and Paolo could be battling it out for number one as the pair were both set to drop albums in early 2022.

An industry insider told the publication: “The pandemic led to a lot of artists holding back on releasing records so only recently has there been the return of huge albums from superstar artists. There will be lots more of those in 2022 but all eyes right now are on Lewis and Paolo.

“It looks like Scottish music could dominate the charts like never before because both artists are in such high demand.

“Expectations are high and both have been working hard to make sure they can deliver.”

The singer will appear in a special guest slot before Paolo Nutini on the Friday night (July 8).

Also performing alongside the duo on the Friday will be: Nile Rodgers & CHIC; Tom Grennan; The Lathums; Ella Henderson; The Bootleg Beatles; Beabadoobee; M Huncho; Callum Beattie; Luke La Volpe; Brooke Combe, The Regrettes.

TRNSMT will take place from July 8-10.
