Sam Fender's St James Park support acts announced as fans go wild for announcement

The two support acts who will open for Sam Fender at St James' Park in June next year have been announced.

Over the past week, the platinum-selling North Shields musician has been the subject of much speculation that he might have been about to make all his Geordie fans' dreams come true by playing Newcastle United's famous ground. The rumours started after Sam was clocked on the St James' pitch carrying a black and white guitar, by visitors doing the stadium tour, while other fans, waiting outside for news of record signing Alexander Isak, heard Local Hero being played.

Well on Friday morning, Sam made it official and confirmed that he will be playing St James' Park on Friday, June 9. In a stirring social media post, which featured a video of him and his band walking onto the pitch as Local Hero played, Sam wrote: "It's a childhood dream come true. I always joked that one day we might play St James' Park in Newcastle, the biggest stadium in the north east, and now we're actually gonna play it on the 9th June next year. It's gonna be such a special moment and I hope you all join us for it."

Like Sam did in 2019, Holly won the Brit Awards' Rising Star accolade this year, formerly known as the Critics Choice and delivered an amazing performance of her track London is Lonely at the ceremony. She also duetted with Sam on a stunning re-working of his epic anthem Seventeen Going Under. She also shared the bill with Sam at the This is Tomorrow festival in Newcastle last year.

Tickets to see Sam at St James' go on sale next Friday, September 9 via Ticketmaster. Pre-sale goes live on Wednesday 7 at 10am. Sign up for access HERE.
